the hospital below is good enough for a future CRNA to gain ICU experience? It is not a teaching hospital and i am afraid it is not good enough. How do you think? Thanks for sharing your opinion!

My advice would be to stay away from any Sisters of St Francis hospital My hospital just got bought out by them, not very happy here!

Just curious as to why you are not happy about it. St. Anthony's in Crown Point is where I am hoping to work after graduation. They have the best L&D in the area for mom's that are hoping to avoid c-sections, and interventions. (I obviously want to be a L&D nurse). :)
Striict adherence to Catholic dogma (no tubal ligations, no plan B for rape victims, etc) poor insurance plans, poor management, blinders to what is going on in the real world, poor management again. Left a facility I had worked at for 20 years because after they took over because it was so bad.
You'll have the tubal ligation and rape problem with any Catholic hospital. That isn't just because it is Sisters of St. Francis. The rest is a concern.
Nope, I researched post rape options for a paper for my MSN. Many Catholic hospitals allow for post sexual assault counseling including providing medication to prevent pregnancy. SSFHS opted to go to the extreme, citing "working in concert with the devil" as the reason why they do not allow even discussion of options to avoid pregnancy after sexual assault.

Although, I disagree with not providing medications to prevent pregnancy in the case of sexual assault I actually consider their "conservative" policies to be a huge benefit. Consider, that someone who is strongly pro-life faces just the opposite quandary at many other institutions (working in places that will routinely give Ru486 type medications et.) so it all comes down to your personal perspectives. Around here Saint Francis hospitals are highly respected (plus they pay double time on Sundays). Any decent ICU should get you into CRNA school provided your other factors are in line... good grades, GRE's ect. Of course all things being equal it would be a good thing to work at a top notch teaching hospital or other renouned ICU.
