FirstYear2005,

Hi how you doing? I'm glad to hear that things are going well for you so far. Are you a pre-nursing student or a (coveted) nursing student? This board is so helpful, I'm sure you'll love it.

Hi, thanks for responding ! I'm a first year nursing student ! I have a bs in psych but decided to pursue nursing. i think this is the right fit for me and the opportunities are so endless ! (it seems!) i'm doing well so far - we are learning the basics - bedpans, blood pressure, etc. the instructors seem very caring.

What a small world. I just got back home from the Woodlands last week. My family leaves there, and my brother is a nurse at Herman-Memorial of the Woodlands. He works in the tele unit. Good luck to you.

He went to school in College Station. As far as his job goes, his biggest complaint is the family, and I believe he has burnout. At one point, he was thinking about going back to school to be a CRNA, but he gave up on that due to family commitments. I told him to be a circulating nurse. I once did it, and I never dealt with the family or for that matter the pts (at least on a conversational level). It was just a matter of minutes before the anesthetist would have them out. I personally found it kind of lonely, but to each their own. The good thing about Hermann-Memorial is that they live up to their promises. I forgot the nurse-pt ratio, but my brother says it"s really good, and the nurses get at least one if not 2 CNA (depending on the ratio you have). He's been there for many yrs.

that's great. my mil worked at mem. herman in orange, tx where i would eventually like to relocate to. did ur brother go to blinn ? i know a guy doing the transition program there and he is doing great.

It is a small world-I am a BSN student in MI, but I lived in TX for many years-actually I was right around the corner from MoCo in Carriage Hills. Good luck on your first year.

wow,that's about 7 miles from my house ! :D (I think)
