Texas WIA and school?

Published

Howdy!

I'm heading back to school this fall, full time, and eventually aim to get into UT SON here in the Med Center (Houston). My question is does WIA (workforce investment act) help pay for schooling, even if it's normal college/pre-reqs?

I've been unemployed for a bit now, and am finally getting around to my school. My financial aid package, because I submitted my FAFSA late, is $15,000. I'm used to living on nothing as-is (unemployment isn't so grand).

Can I continue collecting UI while in school, or do I need/should I enroll in WIA? What I'm seeing on the TWC website is that funding ended on June 30 2010? I'm confused.

Has anyone here gone to school and still collected UI in Texas? How did that work for you? I am still looking for work, lordy am I, and am even awaiting my Federal Work Study letter so I can try to get a campus job (assuming the other 'thousands' I was told about don't snag them all first).

Thanks guys! You've been a great bunch of answering my questions so far.

Side note: I recently ran in an ex at the store (the reason I'm in Texas rather than Manhattan). Turns out she's in school now to be a PA, and I told her I was going back to school to be a NP, haha.
