Anyone out there apply/interview for any of the UT Southwestern Graduate Nurse Internships??

I have an interview April 11 for med surg

My interview is on the 8th, good luck everyone!!!

What are you interviewing for?

OR, my other 2 classmates are interviewing for med aurg

Good luck and keep us posted! I was offered and accepted the med/surg internship:)

Did they offer it to you on the spot? I'm worried cause I interview last so they may have already selected everyone they want

Laurenxaubrey - At the end of the interview, they said that it would probably be about a week before I hear back, but the recruiter called me about 2 hours after the interview and said they wanted to offer me the position. I was really surprised it was so fast! They told me there's about 46 positions for their internship and about 1/2 are Med/Surg. I don't think they would waste their time (and yours) interviewing you if they've already filled the positions....

Yeah that's what I was saying. Thanks so much! Will let you know how mine goes

That is exciting to her! I'm so happy for you. Best of luck everyone!!

What was the interview like, any tips would help

They use "targeted selection" as their inteview questions. A few of the questions I can remember....

Tell us a little about yourself.

Why nursing? (I think they asked this because I was in a different field before).

Was there a time when there was a policy/procedure change that was implemented and how did you handle it?

Was there a time when you had to implement a change that others didn't agree with and how did you get them on board?

Tell us about a time when your planned interventions for patient care did not turn out as expected. How did you handle it?

There was a question about teamwork - when you were a part of a team, what did you do and how was it received.

Those are the only ones that I can remember - it was kind of a blur, lol! But in general, they are looking for you to talk about a situation, the action you took, and the result.

The format of the interview, targeted selection, is when they have a category of questions such as - "building trusting relationships" and they have 3 or so questions that they could choose to ask...typically they only ask one per category (unless they didn't get a good response, or need more info). Based on how you communicate your answers (i.e. clear, concise, answers the question) they score you and that will tell them if they want to hire you.

The team I interviewed with was really nice, 2 Nurse Managers and the Clinical Educator for Nursing. They kept it somewhat relaxed and conversational. I asked questions at the end and they seemed to like those:)

Good luck!!
