Texas Careers in San Antonio, TX

I was wondering if anyone is attending or has graduated from this school. I have an appointment with a rep this afternoon, and I'm a little weary about it. They offer an evening LVN program, so that's what got me interested. Is this a good school to go to? Any feedback is appreciated...thanks!

I am curious- how did your meeting go? I haven't heard a lot about this school- is it the one located near Ingram?

Yes, this school is the one located off of Loop 410 and Ingram...it actually used to be the old Toys R Us!

The meeting went well, and everyone there is really nice, but I felt a little rushed. The lady I met with had me take an assessment test, which I passed. (It was super-easy.) And after that, she scheduled me to take the HESI...next Wednesday! I think I'm going to call her back and reschedule it for a later date...I don't feel I'm ready to take it this week. So I kinda got the feeling they're in a hurry to enroll as many students as possible. Also, the program is a little over $24K, which I think is expensive. The rep did say that that includes everything: the whole program, books, lab fees, registration fee, etc. so I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not. Oh, and the LVN evening program is 18 months long, M-F 6:00-10:00 p.m. - including the summer. Not sure if this is worth it for just getting my LVN.

The NCLEX pass rate for that is school is 66%. I've heard of other schools with much better pass rates.

So...I'm a little stuck on what I should do. I may just wait until next semester to enroll at SAC for the RN program instead. It's probably a lot cheaper too!

Galen has a better pass rate, and the tuition is cheaper (around 15k) but doesn't include books and uniforms. You can usually find someone willing to sell theirs when they are done though.

Their evening program is 5p-9p, clinicals until 11p, 4 to 5 nights a week for 21 months. Classes start every three months. Quarters are three months long and you get a week break in-between each one. There are no spring or summer breaks.

SAC may be the way to go if you have all of your pre-requisites, and if a waiting list won't be a problem.

I went to Galen for my LVN and will be starting their RN bridge program in July. SAC would have been cheaper but the timeline wasn't a good fit for me.

Feel free to contact me (PM or on the board) with any other questions you might have

eta: questions about Galen, if you're interested. I don't know much about Tx Careers...LOL

I agree about Galen. The program cost is $235 per credit hour and is 73 hours for the LVN portion. The pass rate is in the 80's and the school is very nice. I start the day program in August and very much look forward to it. St. Philips offers an LVN program as well.
