Terms we will not admit to using

  • Expert

You all have heard of them and of course we never actually use any of these terms but somehow they are there and everyone knows them.......

There the "unofficial" abbreviation list

like

FLK Funny Looking Kid

or

Craft syndrome - Can't Remember A Flippin' Thing

PFO - clean version - Potted (Drunk) and Fell Over

AHD - Acute Haloperidol Deficit

Or the pseudomedical jargon for describing patient peculiarities i.e.

Mononeuronis Asynapsis

Acute Pneumoencephalopathy (thanks TeeitupTom)

Acute Hyponicotaemia (busting for a cigarette)

Does anyone know anymore??

Okay can anyone add to this list

I know we've already had FUBAR but a friend of mine gave it a new twist:

FUBAR BUNDY - fouled (if you like) up beyond all recognition but unfortunately not dead yet

Tontine Treatment - (Pillow over the face)

Rapid Lead Infusion - (bullet in the head)

Yellow River--someone forget to clamp the Foley bag after draining.

Positive Hilton Sign -- pt thinks they're at the Hilton, not a hospital.

10th Floor Transfer -- (ie dead/dying, as our facility only has nine floors).

Pillow Therapy -- Take the pillow of your most obnoxious pt and gently yet firmly hold it over their face until the oxygen deprivation buys you a few minutes of peace and quiet.

And no, I've never done the last. It's darn tempting sometimes though! :chuckle

4_12_1.gifI remember thinking them kind of thoughts myself when I was a school bus driver. I came mighty close a couple times, 4_3_1.gif but was able to block the urge.

I raised them little critters too. Cute, aren't they?

The department secretary and I use a few abbreviations. DA, RA, and PA

Dumb ahole

real ahole

and perfect ahole

The question asked by me was "Is everyone here a dumb ahole except us?" She she said that not everyone could be perfect aholes, like us. So...the abbreviations have been used frequently when frustrated. :rotfl:
