NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A new program to encourage registered nurses to pursue teaching degrees should help alleviate the nursing shortage in Tennessee, Gov. Phil Bredesen said Monday.

I think that this is a great idea. The only concern I would have as an instructor is what quality of students I'm getting. Just like with anything else, many people go into nursing for all the wrong reasons. As an instructor, I don't know if I want to deal with the nurses who don't have altruistic motives when they going into a field like this. I fear putting my license on the line for them. If we were just dealing with ideas and data, it would be a different story. I do hope though that all 383 nursing faculty positions are filled in TN. I want to be able to get nursing care as I age.
