Hello all! First of all, good luck with your future nursing goals, or congratulations on your achievements if you are currently an RN! I just applied for the fall program with a local, competitive (aren't they all, really?) nursing program. They are primarily looking at the scores from the Kaplan entrance exam that every applicant is required to take. I scored an 81 overall. Not too pleased with my science score.
Math: 94 Reading: 93 Writing: 73 Science: 60
I can't find much information here on the Kaplan, however I can find plenty on the TEAS. It's my understanding that the Kaplan test is replacing TEAS at many schools, so it seems they may be phasing the TEAS out. Not sure.
Would anyone happen to know how they compare? Is 81 an ok score? My nursing advisor said the average accepted applicants score is 69, but this seems way too low. Thoughts?

I was told you need at least 55 overall to pass (TEAS) So your score is awesome!

I took both, didn't study for either (don't recommend that!). I scored an over 79 on the Kaplan and an 82 on the TEAS V. Out of my school and the other people I talked to, I scored higher than average and I was accepted into that program. On the teas, I was told that it was above average and I was accepted into that program as well.
I felt both tests were similar, but the kaplan seemed more specific. There were more A&P questions on my Kaplan and more physical science questions on my TEAS. The math portion on the teas was harder than kaplan, but a calc was not allowed. At my school, we could use it for the kaplan. I felt the vocab was easier on the teas. Overall, they were pretty similar.
Thank you sarasipe and RubySlippers06! I appreciate the feedback. It's still hard to believe that a 69 is average, that seems so very low to me.

Yeah, I was pretty upset getting an 82 on my TEAS. The adviser told me, with my GPA, as long as I did above average on the TEAS I wouldn't have a problem getting in. I did get in, but I had a lot more stress about it than I would have had if I didn't have the one bad semester and didn't study for the TEAS.
The Kaplan wasn't a big deal because they didn't focus a lot on that score. Plus, my GPA was a 3.9 when I applied. For the second program (the one I'm about to begin) it was a 3.82
Neither are anything to stress about, but definitely get a book and review it!
I only got 63 on my TEAS. I was accepted into the LPN accelerated program @ the college of my choice, but does my low score reflect that I might not do well in school because I didn't know a lot of the answers??

Thanks, my school just started requiring the TEAS test and it's good to know that making a good grade isn't impossible. I've heard horror stories about it.

I scored a 63 on the TEAS which is low and finished my ADN program with a 3.7 GPA so a low Teas ....or Kaplan whether high or low is not exactly reflective of how you will do once actually in the program....there were classmates that had higher TEAS scores then me but still failed classes that I didn't soo regardless just study continuously during the actual RN program good luck everyone!
