Teas VI: ati practice vs. real exam

Published

So I've been studying for a month now for my teas exam, and I feel like I haven't been advancing. I took practice B and the first time around I scored a 66% I took it again today and scored a 66.7% I'm freaking out because the exam was pretty intense. I've literally gone through all the threads and found that some people have scored the same and when they took the real exam scored above 80+? I really need words of encouragement because I am psyching myself out :( Do you guys feel the practice exams were a lot harder than the real exam?

The thing that helped me was taking notes on the answers during the practice exams. Trying to distinguish why the answer is correct helped me. Also, when you take the practice exams, try to emulate your test environment. This will better prepare you for the real thing. Train yourself to focus for a long period of time.

The best thing you can do to ease your anxiety is prepare in advance.

Best of luck.

Thank you. I have good grades over all, but I'm the type of person that tends to stress í ½í¸ž And then that stress takes over and I can't think properly. I started out w test B because I heard it was the hardest one of the two. So I took it to see where I'm at. The key for me right now is just practice makes perfect :( But here in San Diego I only have one shot @ the TEAS and I can't afford to fail... or even if I do pass above a 62.. I won't be able to re take it for another two years... so that's what's driving my nerves :(

I just took the TEAS on Monday, and I will say that the exam holds true to many standardized tests. The reading, english, vocab sections are kind of the same. I would really focus on the Math and Science. The number 1 way to blow a standardized test is by psyching yourself out. Just take your time. Read the questions carefully. Because the exam is on a computer, you can't circle things, but use your scratch paper to WRITE down key words to look for. Don't second guess yourself. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

San Diego is incredibly impacted.

The way I see it, you have two options:

If you're set on going to Sand Diego, then postpone your test date and continue to study; you only have one shot at the exam. Look over practice test B and see where you're missing questions. Review those sections and really focus. I tried to use multiple sources to study. Buy practice test A but only take it once you've covered all of your weak points. Treat it as if it's the real thing, and go from there.

Your other option would be to apply to other schools. Most people suggested this to me when I had anxiety about the TEAS as well, but I had my heart set on one school. My first attempt got me a 78.00 and on my second I scored a 90.07.

It is possible to improve, but you can only do so if you give yourself the opportunity to focus. Yes, it's stressful. I was a nervous wreck when I was studying for the TEAS and going through my prereqs. I'm applying to an incredibly impacted school as well. I only realized that worrying would not change my outcome, it would only keep me from preforming to the best of my abilities.

Keep in mind, a lot of people feel that this exam isn't as difficult as it is long; it requires endurance. You can do it, you just need to focus.

You're right! Thank you for your advice :)

Thank you so much!!! And congrats on your score! Yes I took the exam w out studying and scored that 66.7 studied for about two weeks but only got a 66.7% I scored about an 85% on reading just itself. So I do really need to focus on Math & Science. I've also been taking the mometrix exams. They seem to have helped cs my scores have really improved. I just need to believe in myself and stop stressing cs the anxiety is killing my motive. Thank you for you words of encouragement . Much appreciated

The exam is a lot harder for me. I was getting around 70's in both practice test. I got a bad score when I took it but it's over 62%. The science for me was the hardest and it's what I focused on the most. My math was the highest and I barely studied for it, just make sure you know PEMDAS, and percentages (increase and decrease). Reading does take a long time to finish and English, I thought I was gonna do better but I guess by the time I was finishing up, I had a massive headache that I couldn't focus. Don't freak out, I believe you'll do fine. I wasn't confident when I took the test because I focused too much on science but I was able to pass. When is your test?

It was originally scheduled for August 5, but called and canceled because I felt like I was not ready. I feel confident in my reading because I've always been an accelerated reader, but my weakness is math. I absolutely hate it! Especially when it comes to word problems :( I have no idea when I'll schedule to take it over *cries*

Try using proportions!! Most of the word problems can be solved using a proportion. Watch a YouTube video to brush up on them. I improved in math from a 78% to a 90% just by doing this. I took practice test B. First attempt I scored a 78 and he second I scored an 86. I ended up scoring 84.6 on the real exam.

Hey guys! I just want to let you guys know thank you so much for the advice! I passed my TEAS w barely an 80% and hopefully that's enough to get me into my nursing program! Thanks for taking the time to have posted on my thread. I appreciate it very much!
