TEAS v. 5 -- How to study for MATH section?

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Hello!

I'm taking the TEAS next month in June. I am really worried about the math section. I have always, always, struggled with math. My classmates who have taken the TEAS told me that the math is basic/elementary/college algebra and it's not too hard, as in AP Calculus hard. But, difficulty level is subjective, so I'm paranoid that the math section will be difficult for me.

I've read some things here and there on allnurses.com that the math section isn't too hard, and that it's just decimals, fractions, algebra stuff.

But...I'm looking for more info on the math section; how should I prepare? NOT LOOKING FOR TEST ANSWERS/QUESTIONS (I just want to clarify!). I want to know what to study.

I'm using the testprepreview.com to study for the math portion, but, the problems seem so complicated; and I hear that the TEAS math isn't too hard, I'm thinking that I shouldn't focus on the testprepreview.com's math questions to study off since they're difficult....for me. (I reiterate, I am so bad at math. Horrible. Terrible.)

So, should I spend time referring to that website? Are the math questions similar to those questions?

Ex: If Leah is 6 years older than Sue, and John is 5 years older than Leah, and the total of their ages is 41. Then how old is Sue?

Ex: Two cyclists start biking from a trail's start 3 hours apart. The second cyclist travels at 10 miles per hour and starts 3 hours after the first cyclist who is traveling at 6 miles per hour. How much time will pass before the second cyclist catches up with the first from the time the second cyclist started biking?

^ are there questions like that? Where you have to come up with your own equations?

Ex: If Leah is 6 years older than Sue, and John is 5 years older than Leah, and the total of their ages is 41. Then how old is Sue?

Yes, there will be 1 or 2 problems like this. I think they are called work rate problems. You can look it up online to learn how to solve them. it's fairly simple. In addition there will be some basic Geometry, and propability problems on the TEAS that is not covered in the ATI book.

Math is my weak point as well. There was a few problems where you had to create an equation. Solve for x in an inequality and simplify algebraic expressions. Study !!!!

Thanks for the help. :)
