Teas Test Math Portion

I have difficulty with math word problems, not that it's hard, its just that I have a problem understanding the words. The words just don't get retained, so it's hard for me to comprehend the word problem. I usually just start writing down the numbers given and then look at the problem again and somehow try to figure it out.

I can get the right answer, but I will have to try very hard to try and understand the problem first. Rereading about 5 times and slowly.

What should I do, it takes me too long to do word problems, I have an A in pre calculus right now, it's just it takes me longer to do these frustrating word problems. Because I can't comprehend

    Red flags should go up with that, imho. How is your reading for other things that don't involve math? Does your mind wander while you're reading?

    My advice (I don't remember my exact TEAS score, but it was 99th percentile): do practice word problems. There's no way around it. Though purely judgmental, as soon as you mentioned "pre-calculus" I thought to myself, "Wow, there is a lot of math left to learn." Not that you'll ever use the higher math.... BUT, learning it forces you to practice "older" math.

    If you've done lots of practice word problems and you're still having trouble, perhaps you should be evaluated for learning disorders. It could be that you just need to spend 2 hours with a professional to learn a new way to approach problems. If it even cuts your effort down to reading problems only 4 times, you just saved 20% on the time it takes you to finish a test!

    Thanks, thats very good advice. Reading is pretty difficult. Compared to my friends, I will usually take 2-3 hours longer reading. I can read, but usually if I can't visualize or theres too much numbers, nothing is retained. I just get this blankness in my mind.

    I was diagnosed with A.D.D but I know it isn't just that, because I really do have trouble with reading.
