TEAS English section

Nursing Students TEAS

Hi everyone,

I took the practice A and did horrible on English section. Specially the questions that I had to find the meaning of a word. Any suggestions how I can get prepared for these kind of questions?

Well, my best bit of advice for "finding the meaning of a word" would be to brush up on your roots and suffixes. If you can start breaking the word down and determine the meaning of at least part of it, it may help you to help you eliminate some ones that are "obviously" wrong. I don't have any resources off the top of my head in particular, but a quick google or youtube search may help to point you in the right direction. Best wishes!

Thank you so much

Do you have any advice for Vocabulary definitions? Is there any source to get more familiar with definitions?

You can look on quizlet for vocabulary words and prefix/suffixes. Don't limit it to looking up TEAS-related flashcard sets. Honestly, looking up SAT flashcards would probably be better since the vocab tested on is probably similar and there's a lot more resources.

You also want to look into using context clues to figure out what words could mean in a sentence.

Thank you so much

I would definitely go with what idkmybffjill suggested. Try to also get ahold of as many practice questions you can find where you have to define a word in a particular context (apps, previous version questions, etc.). I have a good background with breaking down the word based off of the prefixes/suffixes provided and have been able to rely on that to figure out definitions.
