Team building

We are trying to get a group together to initiate team-building activites on our Stepdown unit. Any suggestions for activites that worked for your team would be greatly appreciated! Please give details for implementation. Thanks:D!

if you google "team building" you will find all sorts of resources. I recommend you include games and scenarios to make it interactive and fun. Showing how NOT to do it can teach a lesson too. You might also give a good prize for the best limerick using team building as a topic. Good luck

I am the charge nurse on the 3-11 shift on my unit. I feel it is my responsibility to lead my team in having fun at work and to work as a team. These are the things I do.

1. I start the shift out with a funny story. I am from Texas (living in Seattle) and am an old ED nurse so I have lots of stories. I get them laughing.

2. I prime the team ahead of time that the shift is going to be busy but we can do it. It is a team work day.

3. I bring goodies at least once a week.

4. I help out the staff when they need help.

5. I make fair assignments.

6. I give out thank you cards when people go the extra mile with a $5 Starbucks card.

7. I am the first to arrive and the last to leave.

8. I never ask staff to do anything that I am not willing to do.

9. Everyone is held to the same standard.

This works well for me.
