Hi,

I'm supposed to be doing a teaching project/in-service for my clinical on L & D. I had been working on a topic that the manager assigned to me but it fell through. Soooooo, I was wondering if any of you had any ideas of what a good topic would to do an in-service on L & D???? Thanks!

How about Pre-eclampsia?

It's a pretty common thing in L&D. Good Luck.

i dont know who your audience is but Breastfeeding? oh or different forms of pain relief meds?

The other day we were having a mini learn about different tocolytics and how they work basically nifedipine against mag and which one works better than the other. You could always do the famed shoulder dystocia. We have to have one each time we have a shoulder and things do not go as planned. The other would be a post partum hem with all the meds, cytotec, hemabate, methergine and the good old bolus of double pit.

I did one on supporting the woman with an epidural. Specifically on preventing c-sections/ malposition. Different positions you can place the woman in, ways to encourage baby's descent, alternate pushing positions, etc. It was very well received because the hospital had a 98% epidural rate and so many women end up flat on their back unable to push out their (epidural-caused) malpositioned babies. Penny Simkin has some great info on her website.

We just had a student do a teaching project on Post-partum Depression. She included early warning signs, risk factors and a ton of local resources. She also put together packets of info that we can give to our mom's who are at high risk for PPD; they have articles for the mom to read, tests for them to take, and phone numbers/web sites for resources and support groups in our area.
