teacher to nurse

U.S.A. New York

Hi,

I am currently a teacher in Rochester, NY. I'd love to switch to nursing. I've been looking into different programs. Most require two years to complete. Does anyone know if there are programs available locally that would allow me to still work at my teaching job while I complete the program? I have a good job right now and while I really desire to switch to nursing, given this economy it's hard to leave a job to train for a career that I'm not sure will lead to a job. Thanks for any suggestions!

I don't know any programs in your area as I live on Long Island, but it sounds like a ADN (associates degree nurse) is your way to go. You can do it part time at night.

Thanks for the reply! I started looking into ADN programs and all seem to say you need to be free during the day for clinicals. I checked MCC and FLCC. Does anyone know of other ADN programs in the Rochester area that might offer part time?

Check out Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing in Geneva. The website says they offer day evening and weekend options. Maybe you could take some prereqs like A&P at along with some othersMCC and the nursing specific classes there. Ive never heard of the school, but found it at http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/nurse/nurseprogs-assoc.htm#genesee Im really surprised the city doesnt offer any non traditional ADN programs for those who need to work during the day. Syracuse has a night program at Crouse Hospital and a weekend program at St Joes. Good luck in your search.
