I am currently finishing up my prerequisites and leaning towards the AP BSN at UT Arlington and the accelerated BSN at TCU. Due to cost UTA is my first choice. I am interested in hearing about the clinical portion of these programs from students and graduates. I would really like a program with a strong clinical component which allows me to get practice with lots of skills. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Hi,
I'm also applying to both TCU and UTA BSN traditional and AP BSN Program. Are you completing your prerequsites for UTA or TCU? I would also like a program with a really strong clinical training. I heard from a friend who completed the TCU program that TCU is a very respected Program and was a great experience. Although I also love the idea of the UTA AP BSN Program but it's so new. I've taken my HESI at UTA but it didnot include the science portion which is required by TCU. Im scheduled to take only the science portion at TCU in Febuary.
I wish you good luck with which ever route you decide to take.

I am a current UTA AP student ending my SR1 semester tomorrow (YAY!) I don't know much about TCUs program but I will say the clinical portion is what you make it. If you go after and seek opportuinites you will learn and get to do a lot. One thing I have noticed about the clinical instructors at UTA is how great they are, all around. They are extremely knowledgeable and very good at explaining and demonstrating. I was so nervous before I started nursing school because I had heard so many horror stories about mean nursing instructors, but I have experienced and heard from others, nothing but good things.
The only down side to UTAs AP program is that we do not get access to the "smart hospital". I think they may be working to change this, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
Good luck to you whichever path you choose :)
Thanks Mketcham 6! I am so glad to hear that. I put all my eggs in one basket and have applied only to UTA AP program. I am hoping to start in the fall 2012.
Must feel so good to be in the home stretch! Are you worried about the job market? Have you heard how the previous class fared?
Hope your last semester goes well!
It does feel good to only have one semester left :)
I have worked at a THR facility for almost 3 years so I pretty much have a job waiting for me, I reccommened getting a job as a cna/pct if not now, by ur senior year, it makes finding a nursing position so much easier. I don't know how the other groups did but I work with others attending nursing school and they are always wondering where they will work or tell me about fellow students who cant find work.
Good luck getting accepted to UTA! If u have any other questions let me know :)
