TCU and Oklahoma distance option

Published

Greetings,

Has anybody gone through or are currently in the process of utilizing TCU's distance option? Has it been a good experience? Oklahoma does not have a CRNA school and so far this is the only option I have found in Oklahoma.

Thanks

I do not understand "distance option". It sounds as though some of the CRNA training could be achieved by either completing coursework outside of a classroom setting or that some of the clinicals can be achieved by working at a hospital in which there are not university MS program faculty teaching the course. Please explain for my education....thanks.

Is there a CRNA school online? Does TCU offer an online CRNA program? Thanks

THere are no online CRNA programs that I am aware of. The TCU distance option works like this. For the 1st 6 months you must attend class in Fort Worth at TCU. The second semester if there are 2 or more students wanting to do the distance option then you actually go to the hospital and watch class via the video teleconferencing. It is interactive we see you, you see the professor and the powerpoint presentation. You can also ask questions, etc. You do class that way till the end of school at your clinical site.

I hope this answers some of your questions.

First let me put in a disclaimer"the information you read here could be wrong" lol

TCU does not have an online program. The way that I understand it is that all students are required to spend the first 4 months at TCU's campus and then they have a few locations around the US that for the following eight months students can watch classes as they occur over a television feed. But you still must attend class!

If anybody else knows different, please correct me

You are correct. That is how it works. 1st semester is at TCU and the rest may be at the distance site.

Texas Wesleyan also has a distance option program. Here's how it was explained to me: You spend your first few months on campus at TW. There are specific distant hospitals that are part of the program with fully qualified precepting staff on board. Once the students return to that hospital, they still "attend" all TW classes through a live TV course. They can interact with the TW professor during class. That's how they complete their didactics. It is not "on-line". Then, they perform their residency at that campus just as they would any other hospital. So the program is not easier & requires the same amount of classsroom instruction, testing, etc. TW has sites in Louisiana and Arkansas.
