Taking NCLEX PN for a second time. Been out of school for 2 years.

Published

Hello. I graduated from nursing school in March 2011. I took the NCLEX PN in June 2011. I did not pass the first time. I really didn't study enough maybe about 2 weeks for about an hour a day. I don't think I covered as many topics that I should have studied. I was going through a lot in my life and I was really not in the right mind frame to take such a serious and important test. Now I have finally got the courage to retake the test again. I am planning to take the test in December before the year is out. I have found a lot of question to answer that I have downloaded on my computer. I also have the saunders review book, my foundations of nursing book, nclex review incredibly easy (rn edition) as well as Saunders review flash cards. I am also going to sign up for the ncsbn PN review for 5 weeks which I will take 5 weeks prior to the test. I am really nervous and I know that I should not approach this with the nervous spirit that I have. Are there any ways that I could calm down and not be so anxious. I really don't want to have to retake the test again and I know that I want to do this for my family and I. Any suggestions would be great"

Hey. I took PN first time and failed, but passed my second one! haha. And hope you do too! But I read the whole Saunders book the first time, second time I kinda just reviewed some of the things I weren't too sure of. I did Exam Cram 3rd edition both times, and bought Allison NCLEX PN NOTEs. Thought it was pretty good also comes with CD.

My advice is DO TONS OF QUESTIONS understand the rationale. That was my mistake the first time. I read more rather than do questions. But everyone is different.

Learn your Labs, practice SATA, I learned Suffix of drugs (-pril, -ciliin, -olol) really helped me out, precautions are always huge. the first link I put it says "RN" but it still is very very helpful for PN too.

Best of Luck to you. Go in feeling confident!!! and Don't get stuck on a question and think "WHat if" because there is no What ifs on NCLEX. answer is right there in front of you.

Here are some links I used.

Thank you for the link and congrats to u, I'll be taking mine PN nclex this Monday and I'm super nervous,,,

I have a question to u since u have finished this nclex, if the pharm problem solving asking for ML

Do u have to write example the answer is 5

do u have to write 5ML in the box or just the number?

Ty:)

Thank You! Were you nervous your second time?

For the pharm math problems the question will ask you what they are looking for like ML or MG. Then would state round to nearest whole number _____ ML. So just the number was all I had to enter. Those are how mine were but as you know everyones exams are different.

I think I only had one math question on my second NCLEX, maybe 2 on my first.

I know was REALLY nervous the first time. The second time ofcourse I was nervous but it wasn't as bad, I thought of it as "I know what the exam Is like, I am prepared, I can pass this, Look for the KEY words (initial, first, NOT)"

My friend told me that the main key of the exam is "Not to kill the patient" hahaha I know that sounds horrible but its so true. Read the questions carefully, try not to spend tooooooo much time then you'll just think too much into it (horrible idea), Learn your differences in s/s (hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia) helped me alot!

Good Luck to the Both of you. Go in Feeling confident!!! (I KNOW its hard trust me but your also not expected to be Eisenstein) Think of it as another Final. Prayers are with you both..

I did NCSBN 3 weeks but I have to tell you...that there's a lot if info and there is a 150 question pretest before u actually start reviewing chapters...etc. u have to spend a lot of time on it. It's like at least a 5-6 hour a day thing. So maybe purchase the 8 weeks one just so you could have more time. It is a really good review but I have to put in the time EVERYDAY.
