Taking anatomy, physiology, and human development. Organization tips??

I'm working on my pre-reqs to apply for UVUs nursing program fall 2013. In the spring I'm taking anatomy with lab, physiology with lab, and human growth/ development and I'm just looking for any tips on staying on top of my classes and staying organized. Any advice is helpful and appreciated! Also has anyone here taken anatomy at UVU I've heard it's one of the hardest classes at the school and want to know your experiences with it. Thanks! I'm so excited to be finishing my pre-reqs any other fall '13 hopefuls? :)

First of all, I wish you all the best! Made an A in A&P and flash cards got me through. When I made them, I focused on what I was writing and read out loud what I was writing. Since A&P is a knowledge base course, this study habit got me through. Currently, I'm wrapping up my first semester of Nursing School and flash cards worked for me in the knowledge base application process.

I'm a very visual learner so what's worked best for me is writing. Lots and lots of writing. I write in the sequence things happen (for the physiology part) and for my lab practices I write to get my spelling down and as I'm writing each word, I'm picturing in my head exactly where it's at. And I will do one at a time, over and over until I know for certain that I know it. Then after I finish one area (for ex the forearm muscles) I'll write the whole list of everything in that area, check my spelling and if I missed any, I start over. It's tedious but it has worked for me. Only one lab practical and finals to go and thus far have an A. Best of luck to you!

I agree flashcards got me through A&P. As far as lab I always went over the body parts we learned in the class the same day and sometimes stayed after. Labeling the actual models of body parts really helped me too. (I used tape) I think the reason this class is so hard is because it is a lot of memorization, especially in lab. Keep up with reading and you will do great! Wish you luck:)

Thanks so much all of you! I'm actually excited to start anatomy and physiology, since i've just been doing general's, and this is more medical which i love! I will definitely need to get a ton of flash cards, and do them over and over. I think i'll do better in anatomy than physiology since I do OK memorizing things, and have taken an anatomy class in the past. Have any of you taken the TEAS test? I'm taking it sometime next semester and any help for that would be great also! :)

This fall 2012 I took, Sociology, Math, Art Appreciation and Anatomy & Physiology I. Did great in all four. For Anatomy and Physiology, believe it or not "youtube" helped me wonders.. I am a visual learner, and the different videos posted by doctors or other students helped me memorize all the bones, muscles, and many more things you have to memorize for Anatomy and Physiology.

Memorization is key for Anatomy and physiology. Try youtube, it may just help like it helped me.

This past semester (fall 2012) I took both A&P I and Human Development and have an A in both. I would suggest reading the material before hand, or at least skimming it. Then take notes, lots and lots of notes! After class, re-read the notes out loud. Making note cards is very helpful too, especially in A&P lab where memorization is the only way to pass. Also, quiz yourself. If you can't explain it outloud, without looking at any materials, then you are going to have a hard time on tests. Before a test I like to rewrite the most important aspects of my notes.

My A&P instructors both required us to have online access to MasteringAandP.com. Even if you don't use this specific website, there are many out there that are extremely useful and provide extra help, especially visually. There are videos that explain the information and lots of pictures, etc. Find a website like that.

You can benefit from all of these in methods in Human Development as well.
