Support Tech Fired for Faking......

we have, shall i say had a tech that has a history of telling stories for attention and generally lying about things. the straw that broke the camel was that she "faked" vital signs on over half of the fresh post ops she needed to get vitals on.:banghead:

this really bugs me. we trusted that she knew her job and was reporting true information to us. what bugs me even more is she has filed a grievance and wants her job back. she says we set her up to fail.

the thing is she is such a story teller and can be quite charming to those that do not know her. i am so afraid she is going to make up some terrible things about our nurses.:bluecry1::o

Sounds to me like she has some psych issues.

Ted Bundy was charming, too.

Once things enter a legal or quasi-legal arena, all bets are off when it comes to actual facts determining outcome.

I would also be worried that this person will get her job back. Maybe--hopefully--not with fresh post-ops.

But she could very well end up being carried by the hospital in some out-of-the-way position that does nothing but add to the cost of health care. Oh, and take the time of nurses to actually do her job plus their own.

I don't care who she charms, or what her take on being 'set up to fail' entails. She wasn't just 'fibbing' a little; she committed FRAUD. Documented in a medical chart information that she knew to be false. That's a crime, not a minor indiscretion.

Her job? Gone--poof!

That's just plain dangerous. If she if certified or registered with the state the hospital needs to report her to the state for neglect and endangering patients.

Yea but he's dead...

I hope there is a paper trail. How does she think you set her up? Is it because of previous lies? Yes, she can lie. I doubt if people will believe her.

I would not think the facility would want her on staff. If she remains, heaven forbid, I think it is within your rights to not have to have her working under your supervision (read lic).

It is situations that cause so many problems. 99% of the staff is working together and it only takes one of these to cause problems. She may be an expert at staff splitting also. Stay professional. She will look pretty silly.

I agree she should be reported to the state. Poof, her job and her cert. gone.

I believe that said tech is a medical assistant. I am thankful for all of your replies. I just hope this does not turn ugly. The floor is all ready so much better without here. The air of tension is so gone.

The tech thinks and has always thought all of the nurses are lazy. We just sit and play on the computer all night. (When we are checking orders and MARs.) and we make her do everything. You know what's funny is there were so many times I could of used her help instead I did it myself, because I didn't want to hear her complain anymore.

As for us setting her up to fail she always had a chip on her shoulder thinking that we were all out to get her. How I don't exactly know.

"set up to fail". Sounds a lot like my job. Maybe yours too? She's probably not the only one taking dangerous shortcuts. I'd listen to what she has to say.

If she wasn't able to get all of the vital signs she should have said so. That is much better than making them up and putting the innocent patients' lives in danger. I hope she doesn't get her job back. Making up vital signs is not ok in any way, shape, or form.

If the hospital has a union, I would not be surprized to see this tech return to her position, as sorry as I am to say it, but I have seen this often in my nursing career.
