Hi all,

Wondering who else has applied for admission to Sumner College's ADN program for July 2021 admission. I have been "in review" since March and am still patiently awaiting my interview date. I am hopeful I will get selected for the panel interview. I know they have applied and are awaiting for approval from the Oregon State Board of Nursing to open up a Sept 2021 cohort as well. Is anyone else currently in the waiting game or applying soon to Sumner.

Did you ever hear back? I know the July cohort is full but I've just been accepted to the March 2022/possibly Sept 2021 cohort. I'll probably go for the March start since it's a sure thing to plan on and it's more time to save money. Would be cool to know others who will be attending!

Hi there. I have an interview on Monday 6/21! Could you let me know all of the questions that you were asked and how your interview went? Tips and tricks please! I hear we should know by July 1st for the sept cohort and that it is looking good so far! I’m really hoping to start in sept ?

Sure, I didn't write the questions down but I'll do my best. The first thing was they sent me an email a few hours prior asking me to write a personal statement that I would read aloud at the beginning of the interview.

Questions I can recall: Why do you want to be a nurse? Describe your academic and professional background aka walk us through your resume. What was your greatest academic achievement? What was your greatest professional achievement? What challenges do you foresee in starting nursing school? What would you do to prepare if you were accepted? What do you have to offer to the program? Why are you the most qualified to have a seat in the program when there are so many applicants? I think there were a couple more but I don't recall them.

One thing the admissions representative I worked with emphasized in the practice interview was to tell stories. She talked about the STAR method and giving lots of examples. That's not my natural style of communication but I did my best on it. What I mostly did to prepare for the interview was to Google "nursing school interview questions", copy/paste them all in a document, and then spend time writing down detailed answers. When I was done I picked the ones that seemed most relevant and turned the paragraphs into bullet points. It helped me to break down what was most important about the answers I gave. It was very helpful for me as I tend to be the kind of person who suddenly has no memory of ever working or going to school whatsoever as soon as any questions come up about it in an interview.

It was overall a very friendly interview. Everyone seemed nice and like they wanted me to do well. I interviewed with the Vice President, the Dean of Students, and the head of Student Services.

Hey! I just applied and sent everything in two days ago. I was just wondering how long it took you to hear back that you got an interview? My anxiety is killing me. Thank you! And congrats! I hope I join you!

I submitted my application in late April and got an interview request about a month later. After the interview it was 3 business days before they offered me a seat.

I had my interview Monday and should find out today or tomorrow if accepted to hopefully September! Might be classmates ?

I posted this in the facebook group but I’ll leave it here for anyone else lurking on this thread: the September start was approved! ?
