Hiya,
Im a UK nursing student, qualify this Sept, YAEY and YIKES at the same time, haha. Anyway, I've been looking into camp america to volunteer - particularly for learning disabilites camps, however tehy all seem to be longer than I can volunteer for. Unfortunately I only have 5weeks summer holidays (31st july - 14th sept) as we have our medal presentations in sept.
Could anyone tell me if its possible to contact a camp directly to see if they will allow me to volunteer fo those specific dates - if camp is open at those months? Or are there any nurses that would like a volunteer to assist them? I have first aid at work, AED, medical gases, child protection and many more certificates from St John Ambulance voluntary organisation. I don't need paid, i'm volunteering for free.
If any would could help that would be great, thank you :redpinkhe

I'm not sure what area you are interested in, but you might contact specific organizations, such as American Diabetes Assoc, or American Lung, Hemophilia, etc to see if/when there are camps for children with these conditions, and that you're interested in volunteering! I'm sure they could steer you to several sites....

The camp I work at does not have international nursing students in the medical center because the practices are different across the world. However many disabilities camps need volunteers to help teach and assist the disabled with their daily needs. Your best bet is probably to google search "residential disabilities camp" or a variation of that and then start calling up the camps to explain your situation! I'm pretty sure most of them only require one-week commitments so they'd probably be glad to have you when you're available (many disabilities camps run into the fall season).

You can most certainly contact the individual camps directly. I can only imagine that they would be thrilled to have you! Personally, I would try emailing first.
This site would be a good place to start finding a camp that would be a good fit for you:

If you won't accept payment, at least try to negotiate some airfare.
