Student update 4 quarters down 4 to go

Published

Well guys (and you gal lurkers) completed my 4th quarter as of Sept 8 and am currently enjoying a 1 week respite where I am not going to look at a book, watch any nurse/hospital themed shows (well maybe the HOUSE season premier) or even look at my scrubs. From an earlier post I had stated I was failing microbiologyII, thanks for the encouragements I received, and it paid off since I managed to pass the class with a B (a low B but still a B)

and may have even managed to pull off honor roll this quarter.

Next quarter I have a full plate with 3 core classes and a class covering computer usage (Office 2007) and I have a feeling the tensions my class have been feeling are going to boil over as this is our last quarter before we start clinicals in January. Half the class, myself included, feel we havent gotten near enough training yet for clinicals and the other half seem comprised of people who are very booksmart, but lack the common sense of a mule. Every quarter thus far has felt like "the weeding out" quarter and we've lost about 5 students so far not including one or two who are going to have to retake failed classes, but I really think clinicals are going to be our baptism under fire. We've lost the two other guys who were in my class leaving me as the lone male adrift in a sea of 30 women students. Not just being male, but being the only male in my class has actually worked to my benefit. My fellow students seemed very supportive of me when I was failing Micro II, and I get read the riot act if I blow a test grade. Now, where as some of you younger guys may enjoy the attention of your female classmates for other reasons, myself being 40, married, overweight, and grumpy most of the time feel like Ive adopted 30 younger sisters (very younger). Nothing beats talking about televison shows or events from the 1970's and having the girls look at you confused then reminding you they were born in the late 80's to early 90's.

Well, just wanted to say Hey to the Guys club and wish all other students good luck and support, I'll probably drop another update after clinicals start (unless something really funny happens like when one of my instructors was going into detail about the stripper pole her hubby has installed, and as usual forgot I was in the back of the room).

Graduation September 2010 (fingers crossed)
