Student Loans

I am a Canadian living in the US and want to further my education in the New Year. I'm going to need some kind of financial assistance to do this, but have no idea how student loans work in the US. My credit rating is limited because I'm not a citizen, so I don't know what the best route to take would be. Can anyone fill me in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What is your status here in the U.S.? Are you a permanent resident or are you here on a student visa? If you are a permanent resident then you are entitled to federal loans. If you are here on a student visa then you will have to apply for a private loan, which in your case would be difficult to obtain.....sorry.

When I first moved to the US I had a hard time getting loans, I got my husband and in laws to act as cosigners for my first year of school and this year was able to get loans on my own...

Talk to a lot of different banks, it took me a while to find someone who would work with me but I did eventually.

Thanks for the replies. :)

After a little more investigating, I think I'm going to probably have to apply for loans in Canada. I'm hoping that will work.
