Stressed out!

Specialties NICU

Published

Well I plan on moving to Ontario Canada after High school and start college there. I am having a hard time finding Hospital with a nicu( I want to be a neonatal nurse.) Can anyone tell me if there is any hospitals in Ontario that has a nicu? I think the royal Victoria hospital in Barrie has a nicu but I'm not completely sure. Another thing I'm stressing out about which school I will go to some schools I've looked at what is required at some schools and it says that I have to take 12th grade chem and some other classes that my school does not have. I have one more question after I go to school and become an RN what must I do after that to become a Neonatal Nurse? Everything is really starting to stress me out :uhoh3:.

I'm in Ontario and there are a lot of hospitals that have nicu's it all depends on where you are moving to. If you are moving in or around Toronto you will have a number of awesome hospitals to chose from such as Sick Kids, Mount Sinai, Toronto General, Toronto Western, St. Michael's, Sunnybrook. One of the most notable nicu's would be at the Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) since they take a lot of the most complicated, specialized, and severe cases. Most Hospitals will have some sort of nicu/special care nurseries but they are usually level II units which is just as fun!

The nursing programs in ontario do require you to have grade 12 chem, bio etc etc.. If you do not have that then there are pre-health programs that prep you for a program like nursing. they are usually year long programs offered by colleges like George Brown, Centennial, Mowhawk, etc.

BScN Nursing is usually a 4 year program and once you graduate and get your RN mostly all nicu's require you to take an additional certificate program that is offered by the same colleges as mentioned before. If you are lucky you will be able to land a new grad job that will be able to accommodate you going back to school to get this cert.

Don't stress! It will all work out! :yeah:

Thank you so much this defiantly made me feel better :)

I was just looking through this question again can you explain the whole pre-health program? I was looking at a School that is called Georgian College would they offer this? Are these classes included in the college like if You took regular college classes would the Pre-health programs be going on while in your other college classes?
