Does anyone know of a good (safe) place to stay while I'm on an 8 week assignment at Dameron? I know it's a typical big city with crime rates and all but I have no idea what side of town is the "good" side. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!! I start April 21st if anyone else is traveling there also
Thank you!

Well, You should be fine in Stockton. I've been her the majority of my life and we have our ups and downs. Of course, if you are looking for trouble, you will find it. So it is best to stay away from it.
With that out of the way, typically it is better to stay up north of Stockton. Nice places such as Brookside, and housing developments/apartmets (Trinity Parkway) around I-5 and Eight Mile road is a good place to be. You can live close to Dameron hospital, but don't expect to be able to go on nice leisurely walks past 2-4 blocks. The area surrounding Dameron is rough if you are naive.
So try not to live or stay anywhere on the south side or east side of Stockton. You can find some nice houses to rent near Dameron, for example near Victory park. But any of these areas within 2-3 blocks past Dameron or near Victory Park has troublesome gangsters or thugs.
