Puerto Rican Nurse
2 Posts
Hello,
I'm a Puerto Rican registered nurse with 8 years of experiences. Puerto Rico is a territory of United States. Puerto Ricans don't need a visa to move to the United States, because we are American citizens. We have different requirements to work as a nurse in Puerto Rico. For example, we don't take the NCLEX, because we take a different test. Furthermore, we are Hispanic, we have a different culture, and our native language is Spanish.
I recently passed the NCLEX for the state of Connecticut. I know that FL, CT, and NY do not require taking an English proficiency test if I want to endorse my license for those states. I want to know what other states have the same requirement. I have several job offers in Florida and I have an active license for this state, but I don't want to work in FL because it is too expensive and, like Puerto Rico, the salary is very low for the cost of living.
I need to move to the United States as soon as possible. The salary in Puerto Rico for a registered nurse is $17.30 per hour and the nurse to patient ratio is the worst. In a medical-surgical unit, each nurse can have 30 - 40 patients. Additionally, hospitals in Puerto Rico do not hire nurses because they want to save money and most nurses are unemployed.
