I'm planning on doing the Graduate Entry Nursing Program at Ohio State University. I am mainly interested in 4 paths. Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Nursing Health Systems Management.
I'm interested in Nursing Health Systems management only because I feel that I will be a nurse practitioner for most of my career but may want to go into management later. If I wanted to transition into a management position after being an NP for many years, would my experience work towards getting that management position or would I have to go back to school to get another degree in management?
I am unsure about whether to do ACNP, FNP, or PNP because while I am interested in working with patients of all ages, the director of the ACNP program told me that some hospitals outside of Ohio won't allow FNPs to work and that one of her colleagues teaches in California, but was only able to work there because she is an ACNP (I would like to move to California in the future as well). I am confused because I looked at NP jobs in California and they seem to accept FNPs. Does anyone know what the director meant and can explain it to me?
Are FNPs able to work in acute care? I would like to work in patients of all ages in acute care but if it is less likely for FNPs to work in acute care then I would rather work as an ACNP or PNP. However, I feel like ACNP had more diversity than PNP (is this true?). Also are ACNPs not allowed to work with anyone under 13?
Sorry for so many questions! I hope to learn a lot from this community!
