Starting ABSN program next year. Could a 'Clinical Neurology' course be useful later on?

Published

I'm just about done with my prereqs and will be applying this summer to several ABSN programs with the hope of starting next year (hopefully in January). In an effort to make productive use of my time until then, I've been seeing if there's any other relevant coursework I could take or independent studying I could do (I'll be brushing up on my math, for one thing). After two years of prereqs, I'm so used to being in school mode that I don't want to be completely idle in that area while I wait for application results.

At the school where I've been taking my prereqs, I noticed there's a 'Clinical Neurology' class offered. In addition to probably covering a lot of the anatomy that I had in A&P, the course description discusses neural screening methods and neuro-rehabilitation approaches. It seems like it's typically taken by OTA/PTA students, which makes sense (if you're not in one of those programs, the instructor has to grant special permission). Obviously it's early to know exactly where I'll eventually end up specialty-wise, but I have had a personal interest in neurology and rehab, which is why the course jumped out at me. I thought it might also be a way to keep at least some of the A&P concepts fresh.

Does anyone with experience think that this could potentially be useful down the line? Or am I completely off base in my thinking? Thanks!
