Hi,
I am just starting to speak with some companies about taking a travel assignment. I have a little over 2 years experience. It is so overwhelming to me. What should I be on the look out for. Goods and Bads.

Hopefully it's really just confusing to you right now and not "Overwhelming". The confusion will get better once you decide what is important to you in an assignment. If it's really overwhelming or that stressful maybe try doing some agency work before jumping completely into a travel assignment. It's the same sort of situation, you arrive at a new hospital and in one to two days you are expected to fill in for an experienced nurse that did the same job just a week ago. Some of us enjoy that type of job and stress and others don't. I will say it is much more difficult to get into a travel position now, I don't envy you as a first time travel nurse. If you like it thought it's a great experience.

Rod, have you ever seen someone get fired in the first 1 or 2-days? I always feel sorry for those people, especially after theyve traveled cross-country. Thats why Im so adament about leaving the kids & family home until everything at the new job is settled.
Not in the first one to two days but have seen a couple let go after a week or two. I had the misfortune of being let go once after a week. It is not a good feeling and can be quite expensive. The Travel company will take no responsibility for any part of it. Even if it was their fault. I won't name the company but it was a "exclusive Contract" and I will never take one of those again.

Rod,
What does an "exclusive contract" mean? Thanks!
Hospital uses only one travel company to exclusively provide staff. They do all interviews and decide if you fit the needs of the hospital.
