I have been offered a position at St. Marys in livonia and I was just wondering if anyone worked there if they could tell me how they like it. Are the benifits good? ect. I was also offered a postion at DMC part time but that is a 45 min drive and st. marys is only a 15 min drive. I am kinda still leaning towards DMC in the hopes that the part time position will be full time soon. I dont know what to do

I worked at St. Marys for the past 4 years as a transporter then PCA, and as soon as I got my RN I unfortunately had to quit (graduated, got married, moved to Hawaii). I, personally, loved it there. I was offered a GN position, as most PCAs that work there are after graduation. It seems like a great place for a new grad. They currently became a teaching hospital so that's a big plus. There will be a lot of transition and teaching going on for everyone. The benefits are competitive in comparison to other hospitals. They should be starting the 403(b) company matching again, where they'll match what you put into your retirement fund up to $500 a year. I also thing the tuition reimbursement is starting up again as well. When I started there, they offered everything up front (Retirement matching, Tuition reimbursement, Incentive pay for overtime). Unfortunately over the years all of them were stopped. They've slowly been bringing things back.

Another plus of taking that job, they've recently joined the St. Joseph Health System (about a year or two ago). So if by chance you aren't satisfied after a year or so, you have the option of transferring to multiple different institutions while keep your years in the system.

Ultimately, your happiness will depend on the unit you work on and your attitude going in there. There a ton of new grads starting this summer, so there should be a lot of resources. It's a decent sized hospital with a very small feel. Unfortunately, you also have to be careful what you say and who you say it too. Tons of families work there with different last names. Just a heads up.

Sorry, I just realized you didn't even mention that you were a new grad. So if you've already got a few years in, you'll have a step up on a lot nurses starting there at this time as well :)
