Hi all,

Can anyone provide any information at all about St. Mary Medical Center's orientation or new grad pay rate, or even about the work environment? The campus is gorgeous, but I really know nothing about the hospital but that it's one of the few in my area with a trauma center. Ideally, I would really like to get in as a GN in their trauma center. However, I know this may not be possible immediately. I won't graduate from my BSN program until September 2008 but the time's approaching quickly to begin applying for jobs.

Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to provide any info whatsoever.

I worked at SMMC for two years. one as a clerk and one as a nurse. they hire GNs throughout the entire hospital, except maybe OR. i started in 06' as an RN btwn 23 and 24 an hour. plus weekend and shift diff. to be honest, it was on the lower side for the area. mngmnt SUCKS! it's very understaffed, at least on nights. you could be working next to an agency RN making double or close to triple what you do. It was a good learning experience and overall not a bad hospital to work at. everywhere has it's downfalls you have to pick and choose what you'll put up with.

Thank you for the info. It's been almost a month since I posted and was beginning to think that nobody was going to reply. Wow, you're right, that is low for the area. Primarily, I'm looking for a great learning experience at the moment, however, I'd like to find a hospital that I would want to stay with after gaining some experience...at that point, although pay isn't everything, but it is important. I called about an RN Open House they have scheduled for April 7th and was basically told by HR not to bother at the moment. I have a friend who worked at SMMC as a clerk but recently left for a much better paying position elsewhere. She thought that the nurses did really well there, but they probably did in comparison to what she was making.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

I was thinking of working per diem in their ICU. Can anyone offer info on working conditions? Do the nurses work as a team? What is the ratio? Thanks!
