Hi, I recently accepted a job offer at SFH now I have to take the pre employment pharmacology exam. I would love some advice on how to study for this exam, what to expect, is it difficult? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Did you end up taking the exam? Mine is next week and just wondering how it went? I am studying for it but am not sure if I am looking at the right things. Was it like the nclex?

Hi I got a 98...study the medication list provided. The math was pretty easy, know the side effects of antibiotics, ACE, Statin, dylantin, heparin education, etc...also know the generic name of the drugs trademark name wasn't provided. I hope this help. When do you start orientation? What unit were you hired for?

hiii! thx so much for the info!' orientation is on dec 5th and 1E is the unit :) where r u hired for?

i made a study sheet and for some reason the list they gave us had a mix of generic and brand names which made it confusing! ill try to remember both as i only remember generic! im also a new grad so not sure what to expect. Is it safe to say when you say- know the side effects, i should know the major ones?!cuz all drugs have soooo many of them lol -and to know things to monitor such as toxicity in drugs that have levels that need to be monitored stuff like that?

Hi congratulations on your first job as a nurse!! Orientation on Dec 5 as well..... I will be working in the MICU. Yes know the major side effects of the drugs for example anything with "mycin" is renal and ototoxicity, know contraindications for example, you wouldn't give a Statin to someone who have hepatic problems, know your normal lab values, know the treatment for each drug (why are you giving it), and lastly know what lab you would check before giving medication for example before you give heparin you would first check their ptt first....digoxin you would check their k+ for dig toxicity. I hope this help study the sheet it's not difficult...keep me posted!! BTW did you get any information on how long orientation is?
