Spring 2016 College of the Desert Nursing

Published

Hey everyone! I am currently accepted to the College of the Desert RN program beginning Feb. 1st 2016 and I wanted to see who else out there is too! I'm a little scared about how this all begins and would love to meet some of you before orientation if poosible. Have any of you been put into the class yet? I am wondering what the schedule looks like since I will have to work, but there is no info just yet. Enjoy the break before the craziness begins! :)

Hello, I came across your thread and just wanted to ask what the program is like so far? I plan on applying this fall in hopes of getting in to the spring 2017 program.. But I'm just curious as to how the class schedule is (because I am possibly planning to commute- at least for the first semester). Have you started clinicals yet?

Hi there,

The program is intense! But we are all getting through it and there is a lot of support. Clinicals Start week 6 of the first semester so if you live far it would be a good idea to move closer since we have to be at the hospital at 0645 twice a week. The schedule starts out with two lecture classes and two skills lab days then moves to two lecture classes with two clinical lab days and a skills lab section so it is a lot if you are commuting. Best of luck if you decide to apply, it is stressful, but will be worth it in the end! If you have any other questions feel free to ask :)

Thank you! Do you have any tips as far as things I should study before I start the program (if I get accepted)? And what days of the week are the hospital clinicals? One more question- when you applied, what was your point total and how long did it take to find out if you were accepted? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! I'm getting so excited to apply soon!

If you get accepted definetly print out the syllabus and begin the reading the assigned readings, which will help to let you know what they will be jumping right into on the very first day! It's a lot of reading so any head start will help. There are three groups for clinical, two groups go to the hospital on Tues/Weds and my group goes on Thurs/Fri, which was decided before we started. When I applied I had 70 points and we were told the Oct. before spring started. They do announce on the website when acceptance/declination will go out so there is no question of when, plus there is someone you can call, if needed. You applying other places too?

Thank you! I seriously appreciate your help! I'm just one of those people who need to know what to expect lol. I like to be able to plan/work ahead! Do you get to choose the days you'd want to go? I believe that is about how many points I will have as well – depending how well I do on the TEAS. We're a little up in the air right now as far as where we're moving but I'm considering applying to Chaffey as well (in Rancho Cucamonga)... I might just apply to both – and make the determination of moving once I get accepted to either one (Fingers crossed!)

You do not get to choose your days unfortunately, but that is pretty common in all nursing programs. Yes! Apply to as many as you can to up your chances. Good luck on the TEAS exam, that test can be intimidating, but it isn't too bad. Hopefully this time next year you'll be on your way to an RN license! :)

That's what I figured...any day is pretty much fine for me anyway :) I am going to start studying for the teas as soon as this semester is over and just do that until I take the test in August/September .. Thanks again for all your input! I greatly appreciate it! That's what I'm hoping for! Good luck!
