I am currently a speech-language pathology student thinking about switching to nursing. Anybody in a similar situation? If so, when did you make the switch and are you happier with your career as a nurse now compared to with your career as a SLP?

I actually have the same question for you because I was thinking of pursuing a career in SLP instead of nursing! So what made YOU want to make the switch???
Although I have enjoyed all of my SLP academic coursework, I have not enjoyed the actual clinical aspect of doing a SLP master's program. I feel like SLPs do not make enough impact in patients' lives. In fact, if you do an online search for articles talking about the efficacy of speech pathology treatment, the few randomized controlled trials out there do not show strong support for the fact that therapy actually works (for stuttering, swallowing, articulation, language, etc.). (If anybody finds evidence that supports the helpfulness of speech pathology, feel free to contribute!) In nursing, on the other hand, I feel that you can make a concrete difference in people's lives, no matter how small. Are you a nursing student? Why did you want to switch to SLP :-)?
