Hi All-My wife and I will be moving to Southern Oregon in the next couple of months ,and I hope that someone may be able to answer some questions about the prospect of employment that might be encountered in that area.My wife will be graduating a program in Las Vegas with her ADN in the 2nd week of Novemeber. She will of course have to pass the NCLEX, and assuming she passes, transfer licensure to Oregon. Now,with the assuption that all goes well in regards to passing, and completeing the Oregonian licensing process,I wonder if anyone might know about the employment prospects for new Grad RNs in the areas of Medford/Ashland/Grants Pass?I will be moving to the area for work myself, and am trying to research as much as possible for her,as she already has so much on her plate, thanks very much in advance for any help.

Hey there,
I live in Ashland and I'm in nursing school down here. I'm in a BS program, and I know that graduates from June, have had a TOUGH time finding new grad positions in the area. A good friend of mine just got one (graduated in June) and it's all the way up in Grant's Pass. Most of the ones who were hired, were hired in the same unit they did their preceptorship (last two terms of school entail like one, one credit class that's mostly online, the rest of the time you're working one-on-one with a specific RN for 25 - 30 hrs a week).
It is a beautiful area though :-) I hope you enjoy yourselves here !
I appreciate the response. That tough huh? That is discouraging, but it is what I expected to hear.My wife is only doing the ADN program, and is nearly done with her preceptorship in Las Vegas.I was hoping that perhaps the situation in Southern Oregon would be somewhat brighter in the employment department. Is the lack of employment for new grads specifically in the hospital setting,or is it across the board(i.e. Assisted living facilities, doctors offices, etc)? Are there any prospects that seem to be a better shot than others? Thanks very much for your input.
Honestly, I don't know. All the new grads I know were looking for New Grad acute care positions. I know hostpital wise, the market is slightly better for RN's who don't need a new grad position....but not a lot. I don't think LTC & Assisted Living have a lot of RN positions, the LTC's I've been in, around here, have more LVN's than RN's...but I could be wrong.
Sorry...
