Hi I'm a neuro nurse I've done neurosurgical and spine for 2 years and also ortho for about 10 months. I like both, Neurosurgical (after surgery care) the most. I'm wanting to move to south Jacksonville/St.Aug area bc I have family there but all I read is bad things. I have an AMAZING job in Oklahoma and I'm just wondering if I will find that in the area were wanting to move in FLORIDA before I leave my stable set up in Oklahoma. I've seen post that are years old on here about Jax & St.aug but wondering if anything has changed. THANK YOU!

Hi Whitney, I lived in Jacksonville for 2 years. I was a transplant from MN/WI. Met some nice people but overall, the place is pretty "rural". If you have a family, it would probably be ok but for someone young and/or single, there isn't a lot to choose from. The beaches are just ok. The St Johns river dumps into the ocean at Jax beach so the water is usually pretty murky. The beaches can also attract some pretty sketchy characters. St Augustine was nicer. It can get pretty touristy and traffic can be a nightmare but I would consider it more of a college type town so a little more cosmopolitan. I thought the beaches were nicer too. It wasn't uncommon for people to work in Jacksonville and live in St Augustine although it's going to be a commute of around an hour barring bad weather (rain) or a traffic accident. I'm currently live in Fort Lauderdale where the beaches and water are what you expect to see in a tropical location. And there is tons more stuff to do/see/etc.
