Sole Proprietor RN pay in midwest?

Specialties Private Duty

Published

Hello fellow nurses,

I am very interested in starting my own Private duty care as a sole proprietor. I have read so many helpful threads but my question is this; How much can I expect to be paid per hour approximately starting w/those who just need BASIC care-assist with ADLs such as dressing, bathing, meals, driving to appts, etc..?

This again, would be my own biz (and going by all the rules/things I need to do legally). I have some families who have asked me and are interested even for care that a CNA could do for them but they have decided they want to hire me (plus they pay agencies almost the same for a CNA so why not have an RN for a bit more? )

I live in Indiana and after speaking w/multiple peers, I have come up with approximately 30.00/hour (perhaps a few dollars less?). There are many benefits to hiring an RN even if it is very low acuity care of which I am sure you are all aware. This is the area I am interested in as I feel we have so much to give to patients by fulfilling their psycho-social as well as their physical needs. As an RN, I can provide a lot to families even in low acuity situations. I am a nurse with 25 years experience from med-surg, physical rehab, home health, hospice and nsg. education but I must say my best skills are those of the heart and I KNOW that this is an area that MANY elderly are missing. I want to provide holistically for them. It's not that I'm not wanting to work hard! lol.

With hospice care, my pay rate would be a bit higher w/this so if you have any dealings/ideas, I would appreciate pay/hour on this also.

Just need honest opinions and thoughts on cost/hour and how this has worked for others (doing low acuity private duty care as an RN?)

For those of you who do this, are you able to find enough business? I am very honest about the fact that they can use a CNA vs.me but I do provide them with many reasons why a personal RN is very beneficial also. I believe it may be a niche' market but I do know it is there.

Thanks so much for any /all advice. God Bless
