So I got accepted into BMCC's EVENING Nursing Program

Brethren,

Recently, I got "the call" from the nursing department at BMCC, giving me the grand welcoming into the evening program. To say that I was excited would be an understatement, I was ecstatic folks. Instantly, I regressed to that of a 7 year old little boy prancing around in open public to a tune that only I could have heard. Finally, the year and a half of preclinical work had paid off and all those nights of studying were not done in vain. I would now transcend into the world of clinical nursing and start to experience the first steps into my future career.

Sure Im a little nervous and maybe a bit anxious as to the workload, but, at this point, there is a sigh of relief that comes over me when thinking about the fact that the feat, which was to get into this program, has finally been conquered. Now, I look to you my brothers and sisters of the scrubs to drop your insight in order to make this long road easier to walk.

For starters, here are some questions:

They require us to get close to about 6 textbooks for Nur 212 are all the textbooks needed?

What is the best way to study for the class and the exams? Many people say that when taking this class you will need to dismiss the older ways of studying practiced by many students, what new way will they be attempting to teach us?

How much Math will we really need to know? How intensive is that Math exam we get every semester?

Any supplemental material (Books) that really helped?

Are study groups useful for this class or are they a waste of time?

Any other suggestions that you could offer to help along the way?

For those who have attended BMCC's nursing program (Day or Evening) and those who have gone through a nursing program recently, feel free to drop any tidbits of useful information that you can think of......

Lovingly Yours,

Nurse212

Wow - i remember that moment sooo well. I was in the West Village and I jumped up and down and called everyone I knew.

I just graduated from BMCC and though i do not have much positive to say about the professors, if I got through it so too can you. You will NEED the dictionary, the book that shows illustrations of techniques and your text book - I think they have a few now that I didn't get but rest you can always get as you need them (Manhattan Books for used and there's a BMCC web site for used books too).

I did well by adapting to the way the professors lectured. Some will tell you exactly what to read - others won't. Note cards are very important and an NCLEX book will help through all 4 semesters.

Did you take the math for meds at BMCC? Then you are well prepared. Everyone freaks out about the practicum but it is NO BIG DEAL. The math exams are super easy (I'm no math whiz).

Sudy groups are helpful as long as you don't get involved with the melodramatic students. No more than 3 in a group or else there are alsways problems...

PM me and I'll chat with you about the upcoming monthsa... I'm sending out applications at the moment. I was a day student so i didn't have any of the professors you will - sorry.
