SNF nursing position to hospital clinic position-nervous!

Specialties Ambulatory

Hello! I am an LPN who has spent the majority of my career in nursing homes. After years of feeling like this specialty was not for me, I decided to apply to a clinic at a major hospital.

The issue is I’m feeling very very nervous  over the fact that I don’t know HOW to do clinic nursing versus working “the floor.” I think it’s more the fear of doing something different (that I’m sure I’ll love!) and risking looking like I have no idea what I’m doing. ?I understand that there’s training involved. Has anyone transitioned from SNF to clinic and what we’re the challenges you faced once you made the transition*** What do you enjoy about the clinic that you didn’t have in the nursing home*** Thanks!

Hi there,

I have made it a rule to try out new lvn jobs to see what I like better. I will admit this is my first outpatient clinic job and it’s extremely stressful. It’s just not patient care it’s paperwork and quality measures and schedules, and meetings. I’m doing the work of 3 nurses because we are short staffed constantly. But as much as it may be stressful, only you can decide if it is the right fit for you.

Hi yolly2022,

I was just wondering, how is your new Clinical position coming along? I’m in the same position. My LVN experience has only been working in SNFs. I just got hired working in a hospital clinic. Do you have any advice? Thank you in advance.
