Slow season? Unit clerk job hunt near Sarasota

Hi everyone,

I'm in Texas but my friend just moved to Sarasota area. She is in her 50s and was one of the best unit clerks at my hospital. She is having a terrible time finding a clerk/secretary position in Florida (Sarasota area). She is being told it is the slow season and to hold on. She is getting desperate!

How is the job market in this area and when does this slow season end? Any advice will be appreciated!

i live in ellenton, 15-20 min. north of sarasota.

yes, it's the slow season, & nurses are being floated or cancelled on a regular basis.

at some hospitals (blake medical ctr. hca), unit clerks are working as aides in order to keep a job & hours.

if your friend were in tampa, it might be another story.

sarasota-bradenton or sarasota-venice has always been dependent on snowbird winter season.

it's much worse here with the housing market tanking.

we've lost restaurants, construction related companies, & lots of attorneys' offices have their buildings up for sale.

want a job?

check the interstate for the housing markets across the nation most affected by the housing downturn: don't go there!

good luck, jansailsea

Thank you for the info!

Busy "season" usually picks up right after Thanksgiving and starts to slow in April. "The SNOWBIRDS" as we so call them usually spend Thanksgiving with loved ones and migrate south after that.

Sarasota Memorial Hosp, Manatee Memorial, Lakewood Ranch, Doctors Hosp. are all within 35 min of Sarasota...I hope this helps your friend.. again, hang in there...
