Single Mother Pre Student:

Published

Please help. What would you recommend???I have a few questions and will give a brief description of my what's going on with me.

I am a 35 year old single mother of 2. One toddler one in middle school.

I received a diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer the day my daughter was born in 2012. It's why I've chosen nursing.

I am interested in obtaining my 2yr ADN.

My area, for the most part makes no distinguishable difference in ADN and BSN and I have no intention of going any further instead opting for education specialties.

My hope is to be an ER nurse.

I have limited child care resources.

•Option one will cause me to need full time child care for fall of 16. In fall of 17 she would begin Kindergarten and I would be finished when she completed Kindergarten.

•Option two I will need much less childcare because much will be done online and I wouldn't begin the ADN program until she started Kindergarten but wouldn't complete until she was out of first grade.

Read on for description of options.

Because it's been awhile I have two prerequisites Bio and Chem both with labs.

The program begins in the fall semesters of each year. I can test out of math prerequisite.

Here are my two options...

I can start this spring with both bio and Chem in the same semester but will take nothing else.

Over the summer take more general classes.

Begin Nursing mixed in with other general education courses .

Graduate in the spring of '18.

Or

I can take the upcoming spring, summer, fall of '16 and spring and summer of '17 and complete all non-nursing courses.

Begin nursing in fall of '17, with concentration on nursing classes only giving me a free summer semester between fall and spring of 18.

I would graduate in '19.

What would you do??

I am also doing this with no loans or financial aid.

Thanks in advance!
