Hello I am 24 and I currently attend Cowley County. This is my 2nd year and I have one more year left to be completed with all of my pre-reqs (Thank God)! I have a 10 month old son and im finding it extremely difficult to pursue my dream of being a nurse. I am a single mommy with no help from his father and very little help from my family. I just want to do whats best for my son and give him all the things I never had. This semester is almost over and next semester im planning on taking 18 credit hours (six 3 credit courses). I'm wanting to get my pre-reqs over so I can be in nursing school next May. The school that i plan on transferring to (WSU) has an accelerated bsn program that allows you to be a nurse in 13 months. Im trying to keep my eye on the prize and not feel discouraged. But its really hard is there any advice that you could give me for encouragement? If so I would really appreciate it.. (This is my first thread and i'm happy about finding this website) Thanks

Just keep in mind your goals. It will be hard. Not to be discouraging but pre reqs were a walk in the park compared to being in a program. Finding time and energy is hard without a child. Kudos to those who can do it. Just stay focused and remember to breathe. Also, an accelerated BSN program may not help your situation. Our accelerated program has the students in class or clinical for ten hours a day. Idk if that is true for all schools though. Stay strong. Coming from a daughter of a single mother.. I am behind you all the way!! It is inspiring that you have goals and dreams for your child!! Good luck!
Thank you for your support and reply.... I'm just so ready to be over and done with the pre-reqs that I decided that I will take 6 classes in the spring, and 4 classes in the summer.... I am so determined that I continue to challenge myself. And next semester will be extremly challenging considering my son loves attention. Are u currently a nurse???
I am a student. I graduate in may. And let me tell you. Nursing school is quite the test of motivation and strength. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love school and clinicals.. But it's a challenge of character! I wish you the best of luck. Let me know how things go for you!

Definitely do a search of the forums using keywords like "single mom" or "children while in nursing school". There are a LOT of single moms who've talked about getting through NS on this forum -- they just might not be reading this section of the site.
Good luck with school. I know you can do it! :)
