Shows with nurses as the stars. I liked Mercy!

Hey allnurses!

So, I don't get as fired up as some people do about the shows that portray nurses fornicating in the closets with doctors lol, etc. I don't think society thinks we actually do that, though we all know that most people that are not nurses or are not in the medical profession really have any clue what we do or the knowledge we have. My own mother, even after telling her what I do, says: well, isn't the doctor responsible for that? lol. I don't fault her....why would she know? She's not in the medical profession, and I'm the only one in my family who is. I really didn't know all nurses did until I started nursing school and became one myself.

Anyway, whatever happened to the show, Mercy? I loved that show! I didn't get to watch it often as it aired when I was in nursing school at the time. Maybe they're still on NBC's site. Apparently, it was canceled due to low ratings. It actually portrayed what we did the best of any shows I have seen so far... still drama stuff, but that was a fun part of the show. I know a few other people that enjoyed the show....I'm surprised it was canceled. Sometimes the best shows are the ones that are canceled, though, and the stupid junk, like Jersey Shore stays on. Seriously? I watched some of it because I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I felt my IQ dropping as I watched it...I couldn't stand to watch more than 5 minutes of that, people with incredibly annoying jersey accents talking about their petty life. I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't watch Planet Earth (we have a beautiful planet! lol) or educational things all of the time (though I do enjoy them); I like the guilty pleasures like Sex and the City, too, but some shows are just so inane, I don't understand who could possibly think that was a good idea to produce or who watches them.

Any other shows on like Mercy now? Nurse Jackie was supposed to be a good one, still haven't seen that, though that was controversial, with the whole drug addiction problem she had. I don't think most of society thinks nurses are drug addicts, though, but let's face it. That's a problem in nursing now or we wouldn't have to do narc counts, waste our fentanyl syringes in the sink.

Hope they come out with a good show about nurses soon! But, now that Mercy didn't work out, they probably won't for a while.

Keep up the good work! We work in an incredibly rewarding profession!
