Should a new RN graduate work in ambulatory setting?

Published

Hi nurses,

I am new to all nurses and this is the first thread that I have written.

Here's the problem:

I am unemployed recent BSN RN graduate.. (licensed, good grades, positive attitude!)

I waited to apply for nursing positions in NJ until this January and I having trouble getting one (I was pregnant my last semester of college and I wanted to give myself some time to have with the baby) I graduated in May and passed my boards on first try in July

I applied to 6 NJ hospitals and only got one call back (5 of 6 hospitals stated that they hired internally or that they are not hiring new graduates or only new graduate within 6 months of graduation and where does that leave me?)

I have been told that NJ market is saturated with nurses, it's costly to hire new graduates, and 10 hospitals have closed within last year and half

My status: I went on three interviews for one hospital and I haven't heard from them?

My interest and passion is in oncology nursing

My question:

Should I work in ambulatory outpatient center if I can't get hired at a hospital? My passion is in oncology nursing. I am not sure if I will get type experience a new graduate show have. Also, if I work in ambulatory center for a couple of years, until the economy recovers, will I ever be able to work in a hospital?

What do you think? Any advice would be highly appreciated!
