Should I stay or should I go?

Specializes in Emergency Department.

The old unemployment office reminded me that I am now at 3 months without working as a nurse. Since I'm not as experienced as everyone seems to want to hire (I'm frequently seeing 3-5 years), so after applying for 200+ jobs in Oregon, I've started applying out of state. I've just been offered a very nice job in a very small town in Colorado. Pay is less than I am used to by a bunch. The location is about as exciting as watching a haircut. But it is work!

The only problem is that I am now engaged and the fiancee has a job she is really attached to. The wedding is next Spring and she wouldn't be able nor willing to move with me.

With the job market the way it is, do I turn down this job and hope to find one somewhere within an hour of my fiancee? Or do I jump on any job that is halfway decent?

New grads? Slightly experienced nurses?

If you're currently receiving unemployment benefits, then you should absolutely stay at least until they run out. You have a fiance; that's a commitment. It would be very hard for her or her family to understand why you have to move to another state to get a nursing job, especially this close to the wedding. The whole idea seems somewhat untenable.

I work as an RN at a small (12 bed) acute psychiatric evaluation and treatment center in Vancouver Wa. We are looking for a NOC nurse and it would be awesome to have a male nurse on our staff. It is pretty easy work compared to hospital floor, but you do need to be able to handle acute mental health situations. We work 4 10s, NOC shift is 2100-0730. If you would like more info, let me know

Would love the opportunity! Now, if I can just get the PM's to work on this site... grrrr! I guess I need to make enough posts to know that I'm not just a troll. My apartment may not be the fanciest, but it certainly isn't under a bridge!

Hey UserG,

Glad you replied. I don't have the PM capability on this neither, but I have figured out how to use the chat function in yahoo and gmail :) if you want to do that. I will be in and out of the house today, but will check emails few times. The chat just stays up as long as you don't close the email site. I don't want to give out #s on this site. My email addresses are [email protected] and [email protected]. Can't wait to talk with ya
