Should I retake TEAS exam?

Published

I have taken the TEAS exam twice in 2015 and did horrible on the reading section both times because i ran out of time, should i take the exam a 3rd time or will it look bad when applying to nursing school? one of the nursing schools i am applying to has a minimum score that they want on the reading section which i did not meet (but would love to meet), other schools do not.. so i don't want it to affect my application for the other schools if i do take the exam a 3rd time. i scored a 62 on the reading section.. what was your score on the reading section?

also.. some schools only allow the teas to be taken twice in a year.. if i take it a 3rd time will i not be able to apply to those schools or will they just not look at the 3rd exam scores?

answers, thoughts, suggestions?

thank you

i suppose it depends on your overall score. some schools will only allow you to take them twice, so check in with your schools that you're applying to. if so, either send your best scores or the school will automatically take the best score if you took the teas at the institution and both scores were sent there automatically.

typically schools want at least a score of proficient, which is 58.6% and higher (https://www.google.com/search?q=teas+scores&espv=2&biw=1422&bih=736&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj0x8HTgd3KAhXHAxoKHfuEB7UQ_AUIBygC&dpr=0.9#imgrc=8zMSHVCT2LdoCM%3A)

i've never heard of a school requiring a certain score in one of the subtests, so that's interesting.

you should not be penalized for taking it a third time, it is most likely a matter of the school disregarding the score and taking the better score of the first two attempts.
