It's really a personal choice. You don't want school to suffer too much..School is #1. Having a BSN will also probably give you an advantage. However, I know where I live it seems like the only people who got a hospital job right away already worked there. It really depends on how the market is in your area how much of a difference it may make.
Look at the hospitals where you live, many hospitals have nurse intern programs where you only need to work one day a week. However, I know around here it's one 8 hour shift a week...so you'd be over the 20 hours a month you're looking for. Like I said it's really a personal choice..you say you really don't want to do it, and if you really don't want to do I wouldn't because you will probably just be miserable if it's not something you really want to do and are excited to do.
Yes!! You should do it if you can. As an employee (nurse assistant) of a hospital, you have a foot in the door when you become an RN for jobs. Also, as a nurse assistant you are basically getting all that time to show what great time management, etc you have and they'll be more likely to hire you when you graduate.

I am a nursing student; I will be graduating in August 2013 with a BSN. I have no previous hospital experience. However, I have about 6 years of customer service experience. My concern as a a new grad is that I feel that it may be difficult for me to get a job, because I don't have hospital experience. My plan is to hopefully get a job as a tech in a hospital prior to graduating, and hopefully I am allowed to only work 12-20hrs a month. I really don't want to do this, because I feel that will interfere with my school work. As it is, I barely have time for myself. Any thoughts?
