Shooting for Registered Nurse - Do you love what you do?

Published

Brian,

I have just begun my journey in college a singlemom at the age of 33. I am shooting for Registered Nurse. I would love to work in trauma. I have a desire to do this kind of work. Its a lifelong dream that I'm finally getting around to after three kids.(One whom I have taken care of when she was ill stricken with Leukemia) Do you love what you do? I find that I am going to be setting my standards high for myself because I really want to be a nurse that is knowledgeable as well as focused on properly doing my job to the fullest and genuinely being an all around caring and compassionate nurse. I can't wait and I wish it was here already. Anyway, thank you for this site it is going to be a tool that I will use time and time again in my life. Thanks for this great website!!!! Stephanie

I just started my journey also and being almost 40 scared me a bit also. What I found out is do research first on what is available and then what you can REALISTICLLY do I found that many classes I did in high school years ago need updating but I found I can do on a college level I also found out that after taking the ACCUPLACER once I could have taken the ACT instead of the accuplacer again. Either way it was good practice. I also found out that I can do some of my basics online (thank goodness) saved a ton of money and also saved my sanity trying to find daycare for all the hours I wanted to be in class, so now I do those when my kids go to bed( I made a small book for my daughter who is 5 to do her "homework" while I am doing mine)

Good luck and remember to ask your advisor lots and lots of questions when you have them. My mistake was not asking in depth questions and ended up only getting yes and no answers. Good Luck
