Shasta college challenge

Published

I have been an LVN2 here in California for 2 years, and I'm taking  a few pre req to be able to apply for a RN program. I wanted to go to Shasta college in Redding. They have a good nursing program. They also have the option for LVNs to challenge the first year, then you finish up with the last year. I was told by some people no one ever passes the challenge test and skills test don't get my hopes up. Just looking to see if anyone out there has done it?  I have corrections and clinic experience right now. COS is pretty long drive and I heard they were having issues with their program or if it's even still going this next year.

Also interested in learning about any good programs for LVN to BSN online? In California.

Hi @Tinkernurse2

I'm excited that you want to attend the Shasta College Nursing program. We're very proud of our long history of providing quality instruction from our caring and knowledgeable instructors. If you would like the most up to date information on the LVN challenge option I would recommend you talk with the nursing counselor at Shasta College [email protected]

I hope we see you in one of the upcoming nursing cohorts!

Hello,

I have extensive work experience as a medical assistant, an associate’s degree, and other health-related certification (pharmacy tech). Also have a 4.0 GPA.  I applied for the LVN program there, spent an incredible amount of time getting my application prepared, worked really hard to start applying for these programs (I’ve been working full-time+ and needed to get to the point of being able to devote to a program, hoped this work experience would also “pay off”). I was notified that I was disqualified due to “missing items”. Unfortunately, there was no possible way to obtain some of the items, or at least not during the time period, due to offices being closed/heavily impacted due to Covid. I can’t express enough how hard I worked to put together this application (especially with impacted offices - difficultly reaching people), and how hard I worked to be considered as a strong applicant, only to be turned down for reasons seemingly out of my control. I won’t give up, I’ll keep applying at other schools as well. I believe that someone will recognize how hard I’ve worked for this, honored to work for it, and continue to do so. I believe someone will recognize my unwavering devotion and dedication to patient care.  I once attended Shasta College, received all As, loved it there, therefore really had my hopes up, so you can imagine my disappointment.

Best of luck to you.

Hi there. Anyone applying for Shasta 2023. Anyone in the past that has applied what was your experience? How many times did it take for you to get into the program.

I’ve tried for Butte but it seems like it takes 3.5 years to get into. Starting to feel a little discouraged about being accepted into a program.

Thanks for any feedback.
